How it works

When you need to combine PDF files into one
Most of the time it comes down to a single requirement from the other side: send it as one file. A lease with its appendices, a tender package, a visa application with scanned IDs and bank statements, an expense claim with a dozen receipts — reviewers ask for one document because separate attachments get reordered, opened out of sequence, or quietly lost in an email thread.
The other half of the job is cleaning up after a scanner. Plenty of office machines save every sheet as its own PDF, so a ten-page contract lands in your folder as ten files named doc_0001 through doc_0010. Merging turns that pile back into something a person can read, sign and file. The same goes for statements downloaded month by month, or invoices exported one per order.
And sometimes you are building something new rather than repairing something broken: a portfolio assembled from separate case studies, a study pack made of chapters from different sources, a board document stitched together from three colleagues' exports.
The order you combine in is what people notice
Any pdf combiner is judged on one thing: whether the pages come out in the order you expected. The grid here lays out every page from every file in a single strip, so checking takes seconds instead of a re-download, and if the sequence still comes out wrong you can rearrange the pages by dragging them without starting over. A few things are worth knowing before you save:
- Files land in the order you add them, and pages follow in their original sequence inside each file. If the cover letter should come first, add that file first — or simply drag its page to the front afterwards.
- Computers do not sort names the way people do. scan1, scan10, scan2 is correct alphabetical order and completely wrong document order. If your scans are numbered without leading zeros, check the sequence rather than trusting the file list.
- Duplex scanning leaves blank backs. Delete them with 🗑 while you are here, in one pass, instead of opening the file again later.
- Watch the seams. The last page of one file and the first page of the next are where mistakes hide — a duplicated signature page, a cover sheet that should have been dropped.
- Appendices belong after the section that refers to them, not wherever your file manager happened to place them.
Your documents stay on your own device
There is no upload step and no server-side queue, because no server takes part in the merge. Your PDFs are read, taken apart and rebuilt by code running inside the browser tab, and the finished document is handed to your normal downloads folder. Once the page has loaded you could disconnect from the internet entirely and the merge would still complete.
That matters for anything carrying a name, an account number or a signature — contracts, medical records, payslips, ID scans. It also means the real limit is your own device's memory rather than a free-plan cap: a few hundred pages on a laptop is routine, and unusually large scans are merely slower to draw, not rejected.
Pages are copied into the new document exactly as they are, with no re-encoding, so text stays selectable and searchable and scanned images keep their original resolution. The merged file weighs roughly what its parts weighed together; if that turns out to be too heavy for an email attachment, run it through Compress PDF afterwards.

Is merging PDFs here really free?
Yes. There is no paid tier, no daily file limit, no watermark stamped across the pages and no account to create. The tool is a web page that does the work on your own computer, so there is nothing to meter or bill for.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything happens inside your browser: the documents are never transmitted anywhere and nothing remains once you close the tab. That is also why merging starts instantly instead of showing an upload bar.
How many PDF files can I combine at once?
There is no fixed limit. Twenty files, or a few hundred pages between them, is perfectly normal — the ceiling is your device's available memory rather than a plan restriction. Very large scanned documents simply take a little longer to appear as thumbnails.
Will merging reduce the quality of my pages?
No. Pages are copied into the new file without being re-rendered or re-compressed, so text stays sharp and selectable and images keep the resolution they arrived with. You get the original pages in a new container, not a set of screenshots.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, on both Android and iPhone. Tap “Choose files”, pick your PDFs from the phone's storage or a cloud drive, and download the result. You can also fine-tune the sequence after loading: press and hold a page thumbnail until it lifts, then drag it where you want it. Adding files in the right order from the start is still the quickest route.
Do I need to sign up or install anything?
Neither. No registration, no email address, no extension and no desktop application — open the page and the tool is ready to use.
Can I mix images into the merged PDF?
Yes. JPG and PNG files can be added alongside your PDFs and become ordinary pages in the result, which is handy for a photographed receipt or a scanned signature. If images are all you have, JPG to PDF is the more direct route, and Split PDF pulls pages back out if you change your mind later.
